Why We Let Them Grow
I just checked on some trail cams and was lucky enough to have some shots of a nice deer that has become very familiar to me over the last 4 years. This is why we let them grow. As every trophy hunter knows it tough to pass on a great young buck with lots of potential, but it has to be done in the right circumstances. We’ve been lucky enough to be able to watch several great trophies over the past few seasons at Great White grow and mature into world class bucks. A perfect young 150 or 160 buck with all the potential in the world can turn into a true giant if given a chance. Of course I don’t mean that every hunter should pass on a 150-160 buck, but in most cases an experienced hunter can guesstimate the age and maturity of a deer, then make the right choice. It might just pay off a few years down the road.

Here is the deer mentioned first in 2008, then again in 2009 and the most recent shot this summer. He’s obviously put on some major mass and a few extra goodies. I think it’s time.
