MULE DEER
Alberta is well known for its strong mule deer populations, particularly throughout open prairie, farmland, and rolling coulee country. These expansive habitats provide ideal conditions for mule deer to reach maturity, producing bucks with wide frames, deep forks, and distinctive antler structure.
Mule deer seasons are carefully regulated, with hunting opportunities typically focused around the November rut. Their preference for open terrain and tendency to bed with wide visibility require hunters to rely heavily on glassing and long-range planning.
Great White holds allocations in productive mule deer areas across the province and offers both combination mule deer/white-tailed deer hunts and dedicated mule deer hunts. These hunts focus on mature bucks, ethical harvests, and classic Alberta spot-and-stalk hunting.

Rifle season runs through the month of November. Archery season begins in mid-September. Hunts consist of 9 full hunting days, unless other arrangements are made in advance.
Mule deer hunts are conducted primarily using a spot-and-stalk approach once a mature buck is located. We take a very limited number of mule deer and combination hunts each year; availability is restricted.
The peak rut for mule deer typically occurs between November 7–14, though activity can vary with weather conditions.
Average shot distances range from 50 to 175 yards.
A flat-shooting .25 caliber rifle or larger is recommended.
